Here at The House of Whisky, when we’re not drinking it neat or on the rocks, we’re looking for new and innovative ways to enjoy our fine whiskies. Around this time of year, we love finding and creating delightfully refreshing combinations that will help every whisky enthusiast stay cool in summer.

We know that cocktails offer inventive ways for you to enjoy your whisky, so in this blog, we’re taking some time to discuss three classic whisky cocktails we think you should try this weekend. Each will be perfectly complemented by one of our fine whiskies and is sure to help you stay refreshed this summer.

1. The Whisky Royale

The Whisky Royale is a light, easy to drink cocktail packed full of fruity flavours. Made using fine whisky and a small amount of apple schnapps, this refreshing cocktail is sure to help you kick off your weekend in style. Learn how to make yours below.

What You’ll Need:

25ml Scotch Whisky
A Dash of Apple Schnapps or Clear Apple Juice
Ginger Ale
Crushed Ice
A Sliced Green Apple (for garnish)

What To Do:
Fill a champagne flute or glass of your choice with crushed ice. Pour the whisky and apple schnapps over the ice and fill the rest of the glass with ginger ale. Add a slice of green apple to the glass for the perfect finishing touch. Serve immediately.

To make your Jock Collins cocktail, simply follow our easy recipe below.

What You’ll Need

50ml Scotch Whisky
25ml Lemon Juice
1 tsp Fine Sugar or a Drizzle of Sugar Syrup
Soda Water
Maraschino Cherries (for garnish)

What To Do:
Combine the whisky, lemon juice, and sugar or sugar syrup in a shaker filled halfway with ice cubes. Shake well, and strain into a tall glass filled with ice. Top up the glass with soda water, stir well, and garnish with the maraschino cherries. Serve immediately.

What You’ll Need:

50ml Scotch Whisky
25ml Amaretto

What To Do:
Combine the whisky and amaretto in a shaker full of ice and shake well for 20 seconds, or until properly chilled. Strain into an old-fashioned whisky glass filled with ice. Serve immediately.

The Macallan Edition No. 4 Release Date Announced

The Macallan Edition No. 4 release date has officially been announced. From July 2018, you will be able to enjoy the unique, innovative flavours the fourth release in Macallan’s iconic Edition Series has to offer. The Macallan Edition Series is the creation of Bob Dalgarno, Macallan’s Master Distiller, who each year hand-picks a unique selection of casks to present as a special range of limited edition whiskies.

The Edition Series: A Brief Outline
Starting with the release of Edition No. 1 in 2015, the Edition Series was designed to showcase the distillery’s strong focus on the flavour created by their oak casks. Edition No. 1 merged whisky matured in eight different European and American oak casks to create a gorgeous flavour with notes of dried fruit, walnuts, and, naturally, burnished oak.
Following the success of Edition No. 1, the second entry in the Edition Series was released a year later in 2016. The Edition No. 2 was created as a collaboration between Macallan and the Roca Brothers, founders and owners of the El Celler de Can Roca restaurant. This whisky was finished in seven different casks, each hand-picked by the Roca brothers and Dalgarno, and has a complex flavour with notes of apple, dried fruit, and vanilla.

In October 2017, Macallan released the Edition No. 3, an innovative collaboration between Dalgarno and Roja Dove, a fragrance specialist known for his signature luxury perfumes. Where the first two entries in the Edition Series accentuated the influence the different casks have on the flavour of whisky, Edition No. 3 focused on the aroma, the six casks blending together to create a unique fragrance with notes of vanilla, orange oil, and flowers.

What can we expect from Edition No. 4?
The single-malt Edition No. 4 has drawn inspiration from the construction of the new distillery, focusing on the structure of whisky by highlighting the role of each cask in the distillation process. Edition No. 4 is crafted using a combination of seasoned American and European oak casks, creating a vibrant flavour with notes of toffee, honey, and citrus.
Macallan’s Edition No. 4 will be joining Edition No. 2 and Edition No. 3 in The House of Whisky online store upon its release, adding to our extensive selection of fine whiskies.

Macallan Releases Genesis Limited Edition

On the 2nd of June 2018, The Macallan Distillery released its new Macallan Genesis Limited Edition Whisky. Only 2500 bottles were produced to celebrate the opening of a £140 million distillery and Macallan’s iconic new partnership with Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners. Macallan’s Stunning New Distillery The collaboration between Macallan and this world-renowned architecture firm began with the design of an innovative distillery but is expected to continue well into the future. The Genesis Limited Edition Whisky was specially developed to celebrate this partnership of masterpiece architecture with world-renowned whisky-making. The project, first announced in 2012, has been in construction since December 2014, with a focus on stunning contemporary architecture. The sophisticated, modern design of the building was selected to match the intricacy of Macallan’s fine, aged whiskies. Macallan’s Genesis Limited Edition Whisky represents the pinnacle of this achievement. The Genesis Limited Edition Kevin Grier, the creative director for Macallan, stated that the new distillery’s design “pays tribute to the natural elements that contribute to the production of The Macallan.” To reflect the wonder of this architectural feat, the Genesis Limited Edition comes beautifully presented in a decorated box. The box contains a lithographic print of the distillery on Italian cotton paper produced by Italian paper mill, Magnani. To add an extra touch of class, each copy is signed by Graham Stark, the lead architect on the project. With the limited amount of 2500 bottles produced, only 360 bottles were available for sale at the distillery, each selling at the cost of £495 per bottle. Bottled at 45.5% abv, this elegant whisky is said to have a subtle taste of sweet dried fruits, oak, apple, chocolate, cinnamon and ginger with a warming finish.
