Keep reading to explore the unique and rich heritage of the Aberlour distillery, dive into the key characteristics of Aberlour single malt 12, and discuss the best ways to enjoy this iconic whisky.

The Legacy of Aberlour

The Aberlour Distillery, nestled in the picturesque Speyside region of Scotland, was founded in 1826 by James Gordon and Peter Weir. Though it faced challenges over the years, it was rebuilt in 1879 by James Fleming, whose philosophy of “Let the Deed Show” underscores the brand’s commitment to quality and community. Today, Aberlour is celebrated for its expertly crafted single malts, combining traditional methods with innovative approaches.

Aberlour Single Malt

What Makes It Stand Out?

It is a double cask matured single malt, aged in both American oak barrels and seasoned sherry casks. This dual maturation process results in a whisky that is both rich and well-balanced, offering something for every palate.

Flavor Profile

It is renowned for its rich and complex flavor profile, which reflects the meticulous craftsmanship behind its creation.

  • Appearance: The whisky presents a warm amber hue, indicative of its maturation in sherry casks.
  • Nose: The aroma is inviting, with notes of dried fruits, particularly raisins and apricots, mingling with hints of vanilla, toffee, and a subtle nuttiness.
  • Palate: On the palate, Aberlour Single Malt 12 offers a rich and full-bodied experience. The initial sweetness of honey and caramel is complemented by the spiciness of cinnamon and nutmeg, along with the fruity flavors of ripe apples and pears.
  • Finish: The finish is long and warming, with a delightful interplay of oak, dark chocolate, and a gentle hint of smokiness.

Craftsmanship

The production of this Premium Scotch Whisky follows time-honored techniques that have been passed down through generations. The process begins with selecting the finest malted barley, which is then mashed and fermented to create a rich wort. This wort undergoes a double distillation in traditional copper pot stills, which helps to concentrate the flavors and remove impurities.

One of the key factors that set this premium scotch whisky apart is the maturation process. The spirit is aged for a minimum of 12 years in a combination of American oak and seasoned sherry casks. This dual maturation imparts a unique depth and complexity to the whisky, resulting in a harmonious balance of flavors.

Bottling Strength

It is bottled at 40% ABV, making it an accessible choice for both seasoned whisky drinkers and newcomers to single malts.

How to Enjoy The Rich Taste

Aberlour 12 is versatile and can be enjoyed in various ways. Here are a few suggestions:

Neat

The best way to savor the complex flavors of the best single malt is to enjoy it neat. Use a tulip-shaped glass to concentrate the aromas and enhance your tasting experience.

With Water

Adding a few drops of water can open up the whisky’s flavors, revealing additional layers of sweetness and spice.

Paired with Food

It pairs beautifully with a variety of foods:

  • Cheese: Complement its fruity and nutty notes with creamy Brie or aged Gouda.
  • Chocolate: Pair it with dark chocolate or chocolate-covered almonds for a decadent treat.
  • Meats: Enjoy it alongside roast pork or smoked salmon to enhance its depth.

In Cocktails

While Aberlour Single Malt 12 is exceptional on its own, it can also shine in classic whisky cocktails like a Manhattan or Rob Roy.

For the first time since 2009, an Irish whiskey has won the Worldwide Whiskey Trophy at the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC), with Tullamore D.E.W.’s 18-Year-Old Single Malt taking the top honour. This triple distilled Irish whiskey is a blend of grain, malt, and pot still, the three different types of Irish whiskey, creating a unique, complex palate every whiskey enthusiast is sure to enjoy.

Finished in four casks, including bourbon, port, oloroso sherry, and Madeira wine, the distinguished complexity of 18-Year-Old Single Malt drew great commendation from the event judges, who praised its flavour and balance, calling it elegant and outstanding. The whiskey also underwent a rigorous chemical analysis as well as organoleptic judgement, proving that it holds its own under every level of scrutiny.

Tullamore D.E.W. – A Brief Outline
Known as the original triple distilled, triple blended whiskey, Tullamore D.E.W. was established in 1829 and has grown to become the second largest-selling brand of Irish whiskey in the world. This whiskey’s name is derived from its location in Tullamore, County Offaly, Ireland, as well as the initials of the general manager, and later owner, of the original distillery, Daniel E. Williams.

After working his way up from a humble stable boy, Williams brought electricity and motorised automobiles to Tullamore as the distillery owner, as well as various other technological innovations to the distillery, allowing him to carefully craft a remarkable whiskey known all over the world for its distinct character and smooth flavours.

The Award Winner

Launched in 2016, the 18-Year-Old Single Malt edition of Tullamore D.E.W.’s exceptional range offers a unique flavour that culminates in an exceptionally warm, satisfying finish. The triple distilled blend is finished in four different casks for at least six months, and draws on the spice of the pot still, the sweetness of the grain, and the fruitiness of the malt to create its award-winning taste.

Tullamore D.E.W.’s 18-Year-Old has a rich, oaky nose, with notes of caramelised fruit, woody spice, and malt that are perfectly complemented by the smooth, mellow flavour of vanilla oak, cinnamon, baked apple, biscuit, and toasted marshmallows. A truly marvellous whiskey, Tullamore D.E.W.’s 18-Year-Old Single Malt is one every whiskey lover should try.
