Macallan Releases Genesis Limited Edition
On the 2nd of June 2018, The Macallan Distillery released its new Macallan Genesis Limited Edition Whisky. Only 2500 bottles were produced to celebrate the opening of a £140 million distillery and Macallan’s iconic new partnership with Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners.
Macallan’s Stunning New Distillery
The collaboration between Macallan and this world-renowned architecture firm began with the design of an innovative distillery but is expected to continue well into the future. The Genesis Limited Edition Whisky was specially developed to celebrate this partnership of masterpiece architecture with world-renowned whisky-making.
The project, first announced in 2012, has been in construction since December 2014, with a focus on stunning contemporary architecture. The sophisticated, modern design of the building was selected to match the intricacy of Macallan’s fine, aged whiskies. Macallan’s Genesis Limited Edition Whisky represents the pinnacle of this achievement.
The Genesis Limited Edition
Kevin Grier, the creative director for Macallan, stated that the new distillery’s design “pays tribute to the natural elements that contribute to the production of The Macallan.” To reflect the wonder of this architectural feat, the Genesis Limited Edition comes beautifully presented in a decorated box. The box contains a lithographic print of the distillery on Italian cotton paper produced by Italian paper mill, Magnani. To add an extra touch of class, each copy is signed by Graham Stark, the lead architect on the project.
With the limited amount of 2500 bottles produced, only 360 bottles were available for sale at the distillery, each selling at the cost of £495 per bottle. Bottled at 45.5% abv, this elegant whisky is said to have a subtle taste of sweet dried fruits, oak, apple, chocolate, cinnamon and ginger with a warming finish.
